Octopath Traveler 2: 10 Hardest Boss Fights, Ranked (2024)

In Octopath Traveler 2, you’ll encounter bosses far and above stronger than the common foes inhabiting Solistia. Boss fights in Octopath Traveler 2 can be ferocious, and many may take multiple attempts and some grinding before you can clear them. As you travel around the world map completing storylines and challenging rivals, you will (at some point) meet your match.

Since there’s no single way to play through Octopath Traveler 2’s storylines, boss fights will be most difficult when you are at or below the recommended level. The boss fights on this list aren't just the last 10 bosses in the game, they are the most challenging for the time in the game that you are likely to meet them.

10 Scourge Of The Sea

Octopath Traveler 2: 10 Hardest Boss Fights, Ranked (1)

Once you complete the Scent of Commerce storyline, you’ll unlock the Grand Terry - a seaworthy vessel that can handle the roughest of waters. After that point, you can sail the seas and uncover another world of exploration. But be warned! The open water isn’t home to just hidden treasures.

Also awaiting you on the ocean are foes from the darkest depths. One of the most formidable foes on the water is the Scourge of the Sea. This enemy will ambush your craft if you try to sail between the continents in the eastern hemisphere.

9 Vados The Architect

Octopath Traveler 2: 10 Hardest Boss Fights, Ranked (2)

For all the bosses on this list, you will not want to attempt them if you are under the recommended level from the world map. If you tackle Temenos’ Chapter 2 story with a party of characters under 1500 HP, Vados the Architect can be a big challenge.

With an army of Wisps and a slew of arcane magic at his disposal, Vados the Architect can be a spell-slinging wizard for the under-prepared. Make sure to bring party members that have arcane magic resistance, enough HP to survive a lot of hits, and area-of-effect attacks to take out the minions.

8 La’mani the Theater Manager

Octopath Traveler 2: 10 Hardest Boss Fights, Ranked (3)

One of the most beautiful story chapters is Angea’s Chapter 2, which takes place in the city of New Delsta. After a short stroll through the city, Agnea’s quest will take you into the New Delsta Theater and have you squared up against the theater manager La’mani.

When La’mani calls to his Troupe Dancers for support, they’ll limit La’mani’s weaknesses and provide combat buffs. You’ll want to cleave them away with dagger or axe multi-target spells and remove them from the battlefield as soon as possible before they overwhelm your strategy.

7 Captain Stenvar

Octopath Traveler 2: 10 Hardest Boss Fights, Ranked (4)

When you get to Osvald’s 3rd chapter, you’ll be up against Captain Stenvar and his lackeys. Along with his two footmen, Captain Stenvar can be a punishing fight if your party is light in survivability. Like La’mani, you’ll want to focus on the adds before taking on Captain Stenvar himself.

Spend some mana casting area-of-effect spells on Stenvar’s Footmen to break their shields, but burn them down before turning to the captain. If your party is low on HP or can’t break shields fast enough, consider leveling up or changing party members.

6 Veronica

Octopath Traveler 2: 10 Hardest Boss Fights, Ranked (5)

Despite fighting alone, Veronica can still be a boss that gives your party a lot of trouble before going down. When you reach Agnes’ Chapter 4, be prepared for a fight with a lot of incoming damage. Breaking Veronica’s shield before she brims with a fighting spirit will be key to winning this bout.

While at least you won’t have to deal with additional enemies on screen, the Veronica fight will rely heavily on using your boost points properly. If you see Veronica charging up and glowing purple, make sure to break her shield before her next turn.

5 Deputy Cubaryi

Octopath Traveler 2: 10 Hardest Boss Fights, Ranked (6)

In one of the most intense fights, Deputy Cubaryi rotates between activating 3 different shields. A purple shield is Nullifying - preventing debuffs to Deputy Cubaryi, but is safe to attack into. The Reflecting Shield is blue and redirects elemental attacks back at your party members. The green shield is Poison, don’t use physical attacks as they will poison any characters that hit Deputy Cubaryi.

The difficulty of this fight will rely heavily on which shield Deputy Cubaryi chooses to bring out. The main strategy here is to use elemental attacks against a green Poison Shield and stick to physical attacks against a blue Reflecting Sheild.

4 Professor Harvey

Octopath Traveler 2: 10 Hardest Boss Fights, Ranked (7)

As you get close to completing Osvald’s story path, you’ll have to overcome one of the toughest final boss fights. While there’s a recommended level of 45, be prepared for an incredibly tough battle if your party is under level 55.

Professor Harvey will experiment with summoning Pure Elementals throughout the fight, ensure you take these out quickly. The real challenge will come later in the fight when Professor Harvey begins to Lecture your team (putting them to sleep) and using area-of-effect spells like One True Magic.

3 Steam Tank Obsidian

Octopath Traveler 2: 10 Hardest Boss Fights, Ranked (8)

If you’ve had a tough time with boss fights that summon adds to cause chaos, Steam Tank Obsidian will be in your nightmares. This fight includes three sub-sections, each of which can be repaired, and a main body that has very high shields and HP.

Focus your fire on destroying the Cannon first, then the Glacis Plate, and finally the Smokestack. Once you do, the Steam Tank Obsidian will drop from 40 shields down to 10 and you can focus your attention on the main objective.

2 Priestess Hinoekagura

Octopath Traveler 2: 10 Hardest Boss Fights, Ranked (9)

Priestess Hinoekagura is the final barrier at the end of an optional side quest, one that is a lot of fun and provides great rewards. If you manage to climb The Five-Tiered Tower outside of Castle Ku, you’ll have this challenging battle to contend with.

Priestess Hinoekagura switches between two forms and unleashes a tremendous amount of damage. With 200,000 HP, up to 13 shields, and the ability to render your characters Unconscious, this intense boss fight may take a few attempts even when you’re over-leveled.

1 Somehow, Galdera Returned

Octopath Traveler 2: 10 Hardest Boss Fights, Ranked (10)

As you travel through Solistia, there will be many challenges and surprises throughout your journey. Octopath Traveler 2 is filled with hidden treasure, secret boss fights, and optional side content that will always keep you in awe of how amazing this game is.

The most outstanding boss fight that the game has to offer is the secret boss Galdera. The true final boss of the first Octopath Traveler, somehow Galdera returns from the grips of death to live again. By completing certain side quests, you can unlock this amazingly aesthetic and horrifically difficult encounter.
