Mrs. Tommie Ann Freeman, 82, of Calhoun, passed away Monday, June 17, 2023, at AdventHealth Gordon.


Tommie was born in Dyersburg, Tenn. on July 16, 1941, the daughter of the late Henry Albert Siler and Loetta Jamison Siler. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Carl F. Freeman Jr., on March 9, 2019, to whom she was married 54 years and by a sister, Aileen Hensley; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, John and Wanda Freeman and Pastor Steve and Barbara Freeman.
Before retirement, she was employed by the Gordon County Board of Education, a member of the Retired Teachers Association, and was a member of Salem Baptist Church.


Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Ginger and William Burnette; her son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Jayme Mitchell; grandchildren, Bryson Burnette, Beccah Mitchell and Kailyn Long; great-grandchildren, Noah Mitchell, Emerson Lumley, Weston Long , Beckett Long, Caroline Long, Sheri Mitchell, mother of Beccah Mitchell and Kailyn Long; nieces, Sherie Wright and Suzanne Jamison McGuire; aunt, Sue Jamison; sister and brothers-in-law, Margaret and Pastor Edmond Kilgore, Annette and Phil Tallent; nephews, Brent (April) Freeman, Keith (Leslie) Freeman, Mark (Christen) Freeman and Chris (Barbie) Freeman; nieces, Darlene (Donnie) Tate, Sandra (David) Peck, and Barbara Kilgore; and multiple great nieces and nephews along with other relatives.


Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11:00 a.m. in the Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home chapel, with Pastor Edmond Kilgore officiating. Burial will follow in Fain Cemetery. Pallbearers serving include Bryson Burnette, Mike Miller, Brent Freeman, Keith Freeman, Donnie Tate, William Burnette, and David Peck.


The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, June 19, 2023, between 5 – 8 p.m.

Ms. Mary Rebecca Heath Kirby, age 70, of Calhoun, passed away Saturday, June 15, 2024, at her residence.


Mary was born in Kingston, Ga. on Feb. 1, 1954, daughter of the late Albert Olin Heath and Ruby Morris Heath. She was also preceded in death by and sisters, Lilly Mills and Jannie Ruth Heath.


Mary was a devoted mother and grandmother. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed flower gardening and quilting. Mary was of the Baptist faith.


Survivors include her children, Tony Kirby (Kelly), Bill Kirby (Sandy Swink), Elissa Redwine Bishop (Billy), Joseph Redwine, and Alicia Massingill Weiss; 21 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; sisters, Beulah Williams, Jeannie Heath, Carolyn Heath, and Addie Swims; brothers, Leon Heath (Becky) and James Dewey Heath; several nieces and nephews.


Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at 11 a.m. from the chapel of Barton Funeral Home, Adairsville with Rev. Brandon Grubbs officiating. Interment followed in Hall Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers included Corey Ghorley, Austin Pendergrass, Alex Johns, Billy Bishop, and AJ Bishop.


The family received friends Monday from 5 – 7 p.m. at Barton Funeral Home.


R. Dudley Barton & Son Funeral Home, Adairsville, is in charge of funeral arrangements for Ms. Mary Rebecca Heath Kirby.

Wil’Jarius James Patrick, Jr. passed away on Sunday, June 9, 2024. He was born in Calhoun on April 16, 2024, to Wil’Jarius James Patrick, Sr. and Rachel Renee Cole. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Willie James Patrick and Shelby Fowler.


In addition to his parents, he is survived by his brothers and sisters, Za’Nylah Armani Janae Cole-Patrick, Harmony Renee Cole, JaKobe James Patrick, and KyRien James Patrick; grandparents, Thelma Cole, Geneva West, Kevin Sullivan; aunts and uncles, Ge’Lisha Patrick, Mayaka Cain, Robert Hull.


A memorial service was held on Monday, June 17, 2024, at 4 p.m. from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Eddie Brannon officiating. The family received friends from 3 – 4 p.m. at Max Brannon and Sons.

Robert Emmit Peavey, 77, of Calhoun, passed away on Wednesday, June 12, 2024. He was born in Long Island, New York, on June 11, 1947.


He is survived by his wife of 8 years, Jacqueline Kohn; sons, Douglas and Ian Peavey, grandchildren, Tyler and Jett Peavey, brother, Sean Peavey.


Robert worked as a marketing VP for Eastman Kodak, handling customers such as NASCAR and Disney. He proudly served his country as a United States Marine in the Vietnam War. He will be honored in September during the meeting of the U.S. Marine Tankers Association.


To honor his wishes, his body was cremated, and no formal service will be held.

Mrs. Brenda Lee Shultz, 77, of Calhoun, passed into the presence of her Lord and Savior on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at her residence following a brief illness.


She was born in Dawsonville, Ga., on Dec. 24, 1946, the daughter of the late Lonnie Lee Bryson and Hazel Martin Bryson. She graduated from Dawson County High School and served as secretary to the Gordon County Sheriff’s Department under former sheriffs Pat Baker and Sid Roberts for 36 years. Before retirement, she was employed by the Gordon County Board of Commissioners in the Records Retention Department for ten years. She was a longtime member of Belmont Baptist Church, serving in various ministries; she enjoyed lending a hand to others in need, was a loving mother and grandmother, and cherished her many friends.


In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jeffrey Lynn “Jeff” Shultz, on March 18, 2021; and a brother, Ronald Bryson.


Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Chad and Kathy Shultz; three grandchildren, Michael, Jonathan, and David Kim; sisters Gail Corn and Sandra Vaughn; brother and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Joyce Bryson; and other relatives.


A service to celebrate Brenda’s life will be on Thursday at 3 p.m. in the sanctuary of Belmont Baptist Church. Family and friends will share eulogies. Jim and Treva Sellers will arrange the music.


The family will receive friends at the church on Thursday from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. before the service. The family asks that flowers be omitted and contributions be given in her memory to the Animal Rescue League of Northwest Georgia, 1384 Self Lake Road, Fairmount, GA 30139.

Linda Sue Yocum, 74, of Calhoun, passed away Saturday, June 15, 2024 at AdventHealth Redmond in Rome after a period of declining health.


She was born in Calhoun on Dec. 29, 1949, the daughter of the late Olin and Irene Garland Davis. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Larry George Yocom in 2019; and by her brother Jerry Davis, and her beloved grandmother, Dorothy Garland.


She was a graduate of Model High School and Draughons Junior College. She cherished her family and loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.


Survivors include her sons, Brent Hughes and Keith Ralston and his wife Katrina; grandchildren, Jessica Gilbert, Cailin Hughes and her fiance, Ethan Osborne, Joseph Martin; great-grandson, Ayden Gilbert.


To honor her wishes there will be no service and she will be buried in Haven of Rest Memorial Park.
