You'll find Tampa nestled on the western coast of Florida, bordered by Old Tampa Bay and Hillsborough Bay, and the smaller inlet of McKay Bay. It's home to Ybor City, a National Historic Landmark District founded in the 1880s by cigar manufacturers and now a popular entertainment destination. Downtown's 2.4-mile Riverwalk offers dining, entertainment and public art installations, and plays host to the Historical Monument Trail showcasing 30 bronze busts of the city's historic influencers. Tampa is also within a short driving distance of stunning beaches, including Clearwater Beach, St. Pete Beach, Indian Rocks Beach, Madeira Beach and Sunset Beach. More highlights include:
- Florida Aquarium. Visitors can Swim with the Fishes and Dive with the Sharks, two of the aquarium's many interactive programs that will bring you up close and personal with sea life. The aquarium is also home to over 20,000 aquatic plants and animals for you to explore.
- Tampa Bay History Center. Affiliated with the Smithsonian museum, this site highlights 12,000 years of Florida history in a facility that boasts over 60,000 square feet. Exhibits include Cigar City which traces the history of the local cigar industry, and Florida's First People showcasing Tocobaga and Calusa artifacts.
For adventure seekers, the city is home to a Busch Gardens® theme park, or visitors can trek through Safari Wilderness in nearby Lakeland where you'll discover zebra, deer, water buffalo, and more endangered species.
